Season 3 - Episode 84: 3 Keys To Overcome Resentment Towards Your Ex
Oct 06, 2026
What if holding onto resentment toward your ex is keeping you connected to the very relationship you're trying to move beyond?
In this solo episode, I explore three keys to overcoming resentment and why releasing it doesn't mean denying what happened, excusing someone else's behavior or pretending you weren't deeply hurt.
Resentment can feel powerful because it allows us to hold onto the story of who was right, who was wrong and how things should have happened differently. But every time you feed that story, you continue carrying the pain forward with you.
Moving beyond resentment requires something different. It asks you to recognize what holding onto the story is costing you, take ownership of your part in the relationship and give yourself permission to actually feel what's underneath the anger. From there, you can begin to see what the experience revealed about your patterns, your inner compass and the woman you are becoming.
This isn't about blaming yourself for what happened. It's about reclaiming the power to decide what you carry forward and becoming available for the love, freedom and relationships you truly desire.
In This Episode We Explore:
- Why resentment can keep you emotionally connected to your ex long after the relationship ends
- How repeatedly talking about what your ex did can keep the story and pain alive
- The relationship between resentment, blame and the need to be right
- How unresolved pain from earlier experiences can influence the partners and relationship dynamics you choose
- Why taking ownership of your patterns is different from blaming yourself
- How listening to your body and inner compass can change the way you navigate relationships
- What resentment can cost you when you're trying to trust and receive love again
- How healing your side of the dynamic can change the way you relate to an ex, especially when you're co-parenting
Your Practice for This Week:
Pay attention to how often you feed the story about your ex.
Notice the conversations where you revisit what happened, what they did wrong or why you were justified in feeling the way you do.
When the story arises, give yourself permission to move underneath it and feel what is actually there. Let yourself experience the anger, grief, betrayal or heartbreak without needing your ex to resolve it for you.
Then ask yourself: What was my part in this dynamic? What patterns was I living from? Where did I ignore my own inner knowing? And when you are truly ready, ask one more question: What did this experience give me the opportunity to learn about myself?
You cannot change what happened, but you can change what you carry forward.
